Within the program participants learn seamstress skills through the deconstruction and reinvention of recycled clothing. To help Threads members rediscover their style, they can learn to modify patterns working with each other to achieve a new range of clothes that they can keep.

Threads sources the materials from donations and recycled warehouses. This initiative allows donors to see how their clothes transform into new reconstructed fashion made by Threads member. The Threads platform allows donors to anonymously track an item of clothing by a number. A before and after photo shows the transformation.

Connecting the Threads (“Threads”) is a creative community providing a safe space for women experiencing homelessness and unemployment to give them the support they need to get back on their feet.

This program offers the possibility of empowerment for participants. Creative projects seek to uncover how designing, building and learning can be a tool for confidence building. It can help create social ties for people in most need. Connecting the Threads also aims to improve the wellbeing of the members and reduce issues associated with isolation.
